Hi, I’m Benjamin Reynolds, the creator behind Strategically Seasoning.

I started this blog because I believe great cooking is not random. It is thoughtful. It is intentional. It is built step by step with purpose. Seasoning is not something you sprinkle at the end and hope for the best. It is a strategy.

Strategically Seasoning is where I share the mindset, techniques, and lessons that have shaped the way I cook today.

Where It All Began

I grew up in Denver, Colorado, in a home where food was practical. Meals were filling and comforting, but rarely analyzed or discussed. Still, I was the kid who paid attention to details.

If chili tasted better one night than the next, I wanted to know why. If roasted chicken felt dry, I wondered what could have been done differently.

As a teenager, I started cooking simple meals for my family. I followed recipes carefully, but I quickly realized something important. Recipes give structure, but they do not always teach understanding. Two people can follow the same instructions and end up with different results.

That curiosity pushed me deeper.

Education and Analytical Thinking

In college, I studied business and operations management. While it might seem unrelated to cooking, it shaped how I approach food. I learned to think in systems, to identify variables, and to understand how small changes affect outcomes.

Cooking, I discovered, works the same way.

Salt added early behaves differently than salt added at the end. Acid introduced at the wrong time can overpower instead of balance. Heat levels shift texture and flavor development.

I began applying structured thinking to my time in the kitchen. I tested recipes repeatedly. I adjusted one variable at a time. I kept notes. I treated flavor like a strategy rather than a guess.

Professional Experience and Growth

After graduation, I worked in corporate roles during the day, but cooking remained my creative outlet. I spent evenings experimenting with global cuisines, studying culinary techniques, and learning from professional chefs through workshops and online courses.

Friends started asking me for help troubleshooting their recipes. Why is my soup bland? Why does my steak lack depth? Why does this sauce taste flat?

My answers were rarely complicated. Most of the time, it came down to seasoning strategy. Timing, balance, and restraint.

That pattern inspired the idea for Strategically Seasoning.

How the Blog Was Born

Strategically Seasoning began as a small collection of personal notes and recipe experiments. I wanted to break down the logic behind flavor building in a way that felt clear and approachable.

Instead of simply saying “add salt to taste,” I explained how much to start with and why. Instead of suggesting a squeeze of lemon, I described what acid does to round out richness.

Readers connected with that clarity. Many told me they felt more confident because they finally understood the reasoning behind each step.

What started as a hobby slowly became a serious passion and eventually a full commitment to food blogging.

My Cooking Philosophy

I believe seasoning should be intentional and layered.

Here is what guides my approach:

• Season in stages rather than all at once
• Taste consistently and adjust thoughtfully
• Understand the purpose of every ingredient
• Build balance through salt, acid, fat, and heat
• Respect simplicity while refining details

Good cooking does not require complicated ingredients. It requires attention and strategy.
